Breon O'Casey

Breon O’Casey was born in 1928 in Ireland and studied at the Anglo-French Art Centre in London. He originally began his artistic career working as assistant to Dennis Mitchell and Barbara Hepworth in St. Ives, however Breon later set out as an independent sculptor. He has continued to be associated with the St Ives School of painters and sculptors.

O’ Casey creates work that is evident of his strong affiliation and personal relationship with arts craftsmanship, as well as his instinctive talent for interpreting nature. His sculptures possess a characteristic simplicity and sincerity that inherently suggest the process of their making. Using auxiliary media has always been an important aspect of Breon’s practise and although weaving and jewellery smithing are now less prominent in his work, he continues to use print-making, etching and painting as sources of inspiration for his sculpture.
