Glynn Williams

Born in Shrewsbury in 1939, Glynn Williams had a passion for painting and drawing from an early age. Pursuing his interest in art he went on to study at Wolverhampton College of Art before travelling to Itlay where he lived and worked for two years, the result of being awarded the Rome Scholarship in Sculpture in 1961. Like many sculptors in the 1960's he briefly embraced the orthodoxies of abstraction and conceptualism, however ultimately his interest lay in the human figure and in the expressive possibilities offered by stone carving.

Williams headed the sculpture department at Wimbledon School of Art between 1976 and 1990, and went on to teach at the Sculpture School of the Royal College of Art, where he remains. His work is held in notable public collections nationally and internationally, and he continues to exhibit widely.
