Saxophonist and composer Ingrid Laubrock created her band Nein as a result of studies with American composer Myra Melford in San Francisco. The unusual use of the two pianists, as well as two string players, creates shimmering and dreamlike textures, offset by a highly energetic and creative rhythm section. The impressive line-up is completed by Ingrid Laubrock and Tom Arthurs on trumpet and flugelhorn. Nein's evocative music weaves between improvisations and written material with grace and eloquence as well as powerful imagination.
Kings Place welcomes Seb Rochford's band Polar Bear, big-hitters of the new wave. They will be playing recent music that explores a mix of trance-like music over eerie, hypnotic grooves, full-on electronics and free-improvisation, melancholic songs, punky thrashes and some great two-sax conversations. In the words on one critic, ‘This is dream jazz'.
