Nigel Osborne / Rock Music / world premiere
Justinian Tamusuza / Abaana Bange Na-Ka-Lwa / UK premiere plus improvisations.
Baldur Brönnimann conductor
The week's events culminate with the premiere of Osborne's Rock Music - a London Sinfonietta commission for the ensemble and the Lead Musicians of Uganda Dance Academy - drawing its inspiration from the composer's experiences visiting Uganda. Osborne's work will be framed by improvisations rooted in the musicians' collaborations over two years.
Justinian Tamusuza is one of Uganda and Africa's leading contemporary composers; Abaana Bange Na-Ka-Lwa infuses soprano saxophone, electric guitar and marimba with the spirit of traditional Ugandan music.
