Part of the Words on Monday Series

Curated by Pan Macmillan

The story of Britain from 1900 to the Second World War is vividly brought to life by one of our foremost television presenters and authors. Marr describes an extraordinary half-century in the life of our nation, illuminating his BBC television series and book on the same subject with anecdotes and observations.

Andrew Marr was born in Glasgow in 1959. After graduating from Cambridge, he enjoyed a long and distinguished career in print journalism, working for the Scotsman, the Independent, where he was Chief Political Commentator and then Editor, the Economist, the Express, the Observer and the Daily Telegraph, winning numerous awards along the way. From 2000 to 2005 he was the Political Editor of the BBC and he now presents The Andrew Marr Show on BBC1 and Start the Week on BBC Radio. He is the author of My Trade: A Short History of British Journalism, which was a bestseller, and of A History of Modern Britain, which was a number one bestseller and accompanied a BAFTA winning BBC television series. He is married to the political journalist and broadcaster, Jackie Ashley and they live in London with their three children.

This event will be followed by a book signing.
