Chilingirian Quartet
Described as 'indispensable pillars of British Musical life' by The Times, the Chilingirian Quartet displays the same ardent curiosity which accompanied its founding in 1971. Currently string-quartet-in-residence at the Royal College of Music, resident ensemble at the annual Lake District Summer School, and recently ensemble-in-residence at California University, the Chilingirians tour the USA every season, and have appeared at many European venues from Vienna’s Konzerthaus to the Zurich Tonhalle. Renowned for their insights into the classical masterworks the Chilingirians have also carved out a niche for their espousal of the new. Tippett has proved an enduring cornerstone, and for the centenary of his birth members played the Triple Concerto with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (a work they recorded with Richard Hickox). Recent premieres have included Michael Berkeley’s Abstract Mirrors (released on Chandos), while current projects include a Beethoven cycle on DVD and the Mozart Quintets for CRD.
