The Merchant Quartet

Since its formation in 2006, The Merchant Quartet has established a reputation for innovative programming and spirited concert performances. The Quartet is the Ensemble in Residence at the Central London Baptist Church in Bloomsbury, giving concerts there several times each year, and has performed for music clubs and in festivals across the country, including the Chichester Festivities. Alongside more standard works their repertoire includes quartets by Bartók, Berg, Ligeti and Janáček. The Quartet has also commissioned a piece from Julia Simpson.

The members of the Quartet have taken part in many education projects, giving concerts and offering coaching in schools across London, often as part of the BBC's Out and About project. They have also performed at Kingston University, and tutored the university's student ensembles.

The Quartet is occasionally joined by other friends and colleagues to perform works for larger string ensemble. Later this year the quartet will be making its debut recording, of works by Haydn, Janáček and Ravel.
