'Having ‘unwrapped’ single composers through their chamber music, we thought we would celebrate five years of music-making by turning to the art form itself, and asking you, our audience, what you wanted to hear. Together with BBC Music Magazine, we launched an online vote to find the Top 50 most loved pieces of chamber music in the repertoire, and these will form the core of our new Chamber Classics Unwrapped series.'

'Another special feature of our offering at Kings Place has been to give musicians the freedom to curate their own concerts, and I'm delighted to say that those invited to take part in this series have come up with some wonderfully imaginative programmes.' Peter Millican, CEO Kings Place

Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 8 - Meta4

Wednesday, 24 September 2014 - 7:30pm / Music

As Shostakovich said of his Eighth Quartet ‘I started to think if some day I die, nobody is likely to write a work in memory of me, so I had better write one myself.’ Witnessing a performance is like knocking back a powerful shot of pure distilled Shostakovich.

Brahms: Piano Quintet - The Schubert Ensemble

Wednesday, 15 October 2014 - 7:30pm / Music

What's astonishing about this monumental and utterly complete masterpiece is that it took Brahms such a long time to ‘find’ its final form. His versions first for string quintet, then for two pianos, could not unlock its viscerally expressive potential.
