Travel to Kings Place

RE:naissance

It's always a big year for Shakespeare. 2014 is the biggest yet.

RE:naissance 2014 celebrates the extraordinary Man and that extraordinary Time with some of the most extraordinary performers and artists of our time.

Alchemy, espionage, art and artists that knew no bounds, the world on a stage, great reckonings in little rooms. Some of the myriad characteristics of the English Renaissance. Some of the qualities RE:naissance 2014 will be bringing to Kings Place.

From premieres by Errollyn Wallen, James Francis Brown and Stephen Deazley, to romping tavern nights with some of the UK's most versatile and virtuoso musicians. From spell-binding, genre-transcending tales of passion and intrigue, to spirit-summoning rituals with the Devil's own music calling the tune. From works that re-define the concert-going and concert-giving experience, to performances that will ascend the brightest heaven of invention.

We caught up with Matthew and Errollyn in Hall One for a chat and a spot of live music...

'Music and theatre – and my family – are
my life. I see less and less distinction between these ... devotions. RE:naissance is a crucible of these things. I've put together people and performances that are all about offering unforgettable nights out, and all about inviting the imagination to transcend the concert hall as Shakespeare did the 'unworthy scaffold ... the cockpit ... this wooden O.'

Matthew Sharp
