CANCELLED: Not So Silent Movies... featuring Tim Minchin

We are sorry to announce that this show is cancelled owing to Tim’s work commitments in the US.

Tim has posted a full statement on his blog. An extract is below. 

"As you may have gathered from this blog (or from the news), last week I managed to score myself an acting role in a TV show. This is obviously very exciting for me… but there is a downside...... with great regret and much gnashing of teeth, I’m afraid I’ve had to pull out of a couple of gigs. Below is the list of the gigs from which I have had to extract myself. I am genuinely sorry that I will be causing some people disappointment and/or inconvenience. Those of you who have been following my movements for a while will know that I don’t pull out of gigs lightly." - Tim Minchin

Not So Silent Movies... is on the move and this special, one-off edition sees a shift into the Friday night bustle and bright lights of Hall One. The first-rate regulars will be joined on-stage by none other than Kings Place Artist-in-Residence and Matilda creator Tim Minchin.

For those unfamiliar with the sell-out concept of Not so Silent Movies... allow composer, cellist and NSSM creator Philip Sheppard to explain:

“There will be no rehearsals. None of the musicians will have watched the films in advance. Improvisation before a live audience will begin as the film rolls… there must be a catch somewhere? Who would want to put themselves through it? Well, it seems Dame Evelyn Glennie and Roger Eno do, along with Guy Pratt, Pip Eastop, David Le Page, Elspeth Hanson, Geoff Dugmore, Julian Thornton and now Tim Minchin." 

"The films will include those of comic heroes Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd although the exact films will be as much of a suprise to the audience as they are to the performers. The atmosphere will be relaxed, club-like and my guess is there’ll be room for some sophisticated mucking about.“

from kids to those who remember watching these films in their youth!"
