The Great Men/Women Divide: Myths and Realities

Words On Monday
Spoken Word / Monday, 3 June 2013 - 7:00pm / Hall One
£9.50

What are the real differences between men and women and how do we deal with them in the 21st century.

In this exciting talk, we bring together an economist, a psychologist and a feminist to cast new light on an old debate.

Economist Alison Wolf challenges long-held assumptions about female achievement and sexual inequalities. With success in the work place for more and more, the division may not be between men and women so much as within the "sisterhood" of working women.

Professor of psychology Daniel Freeman uncovers the differences between rates of psychological disorder for men and women and asks what might be done to address the imbalance between the sexes.

Danuta Keane, books editor of Mslexia, writer, blogger and cultural commentator, stands up for women and the ongoing challenges they face.

The discussion is chaired by journalist and author Zoe Williams.

Alison Wolf is a British economist. She is currently the Sir Roy Griffiths Professor of Public Sector Management, and has been a specialist adviser to the House of Commons select committee on education and skills.

Daniel Freeman is Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford.

Danuta Keane is an expert in publishing, as well as books editor for Mslexia, the magazine for women writers. She writes about how to get published, marketing and trends. Her work appears widely in the national media, including the Financial Times, Independent on Sunday, Daily Mail and the Author
