Stand-Up for Women! A Night of Comedy for Women’s Aid

Comedy at Kings Place
Comedy / Wednesday, 15 March 2017 - 8:00pm / Hall Two
£17.50

Stand-Up for Women! is a great night of stand-up comedy featuring a stellar (all female) line-up: Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders, Rachel Parris, Amy Annette, Felicity Ward, Evelyn Mok, Athena Kugblenu and Eleanor Tiernan.

All profits go to the British charity Womens Aid.

Women’s Aid
is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. They have been at the forefront of shaping and coordinating responses to domestic violence and abuse through practice for over 40 years.

Sara Pascoe is a comic and an actor, and wrote the book Animal about evolution and the female body.

Rachel Parris (Austentatious, The IT Crowd, Murder In Successville) is an award-winning musical comedian, actor and improviser. She has won critical acclaim for her solo shows which have run at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Soho Theatre London and on national tours, with the latest, Best Laid Plans, being awarded Best Musical Comedy Show (What’s On London), Best Jokes of the Fringe (Telegraph), nominated for Best Show 2016 (Funny Women) and recommended as a Pick of the Fringe by the Guardian who described it as Beautifully crafted and performed...tears of laughter.

A 2015 BBC New Comedian of the Year finalist, Athena Kugblenu is a comedian with intelligent, thought-provoking jokes that still have an edgy sting. This year, she took her first solo show, Reality Check, to Brighton Fringe and Edinburgh Fringe to 4 and 5 star reviews. She’s written for BBC Radio 4 (News Quiz), performed on BBC Radio Scotland (Funny Kind of World), guests on BBC Five Live and will be performing at the Johannesburg Comedy Festival.

Eleanor Tiernan is an original, honest and exciting comedian from Ireland who is fast becoming a favourite with UK audiences. As seen on Stewart Lee’s Alternative Comedy Experience on Comedy Central and Irish Pictorial Weekly on RTÉ. A distinctive inspired comic mind Scotsman |Tiernan boasts a magnificent curl in her lip and snarl in her voice Sunday Times

Lou Sanders is a British stand-up comedian. She has just had her second appearance on Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, starred in Live from the BBC, ABC1’s Comedy up Late and Russell Howard’s Good News.

Amy Annette started her career as a comedy producer in Edinburgh. Whilst working at Latitude she co-edited and contributed to I Call Myself A Feminist (Virago) and with the book she has since been touring schools and literary festivals, including sell-out shows at Bath Literary Festival, Bristol Festival of Ideas and Women of the World Southbank. She will be performing stand-up across the UK at festivals such as Machynlleth Comedy Festival and Green Man Festival this year.

Evelyn Mok is the best thing to come out of Sweden since… IKEA? A stand-up comedian and actress born in Sweden to immigrant Chinese parents, Mok challenges the pre-disposed norms of women in the spotlight with unapologetic style and sharp witted hilarity. This talented comic is boldly breaking rules and sharing the frank reals of modern girl life with very funny consequences. Get her in your life.

Felicity Ward is a multi-award winning, Australian stand-up comedian, comic performer, writer and actor. She performs regularly on the UK club circuit and at festivals across the country.
