Turning Points

Kings Place Artistic Associates, the London Sinfonietta and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, team up to launch a series of new-format concerts which aim to explore game-changing masterworks in music history.

The OAE and London Sinfonietta will create a different kind of relationship between orchestra, music and audience, putting the focus firmly on audience members themselves, so they can explore both the music and their own reactions to it, in the months before the concert and on the night itself.

‘We want audiences to discover new things via a very user-friendly experience. It’s OK to come along even if you know nothing at all about Stockhausen or Ligeti! ... We know all people will bring intelligent ears with them. Even when music is unknown, it’s possible to hear whether it’s any good. And the composers we are featuring in Turning Points are recognised greats.’ – Andrew Burke, London Sinfonietta

‘From the moment someone buys a ticket, the relationship begins. We’ll create a shared community between us and the audience members. There’ll be playlists, podcasts, puzzles, listening events and even informal performances that relate to the concert programme, so when the night arrives, they’ll have already been engaged in a conversation about the music.’ – Crispin Woodhead, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment

London Sinfonietta – Berio: Theatre of the World

Luciano Berio was one of the towering musical personalities of the post-war avant-garde, constantly reinventing musical sound and form. Luciano Berio was one of the important collaborators with the London Sinfonietta in the 1970s helping the group establish its international reputation. As such this event forms an important part of the ensembles 50th season celebrations.
