Anti–Politics

Eliane Glaser and Martin Bright

Jewish Book Week

Eliane Glaser speaker
Martin Bright chair

The West has seen a rising tide of populist and anti-political feeling, resulting in Brexit and Trump. Eliane Glaser scrutinises this new wave of populism, looking at how we got here and where we’re going, advocating the need to return to three pillars of political philosophy that have become dirty words: ideology, authority, and the state.

Eliane Glaser is a journalist, author, a senior lecturer at Bath Spa University, an associate research fellow at Birkbeck, University of London, and a BBC radio producer. She writes for the Guardian, the Independent, and the New Statesman. She also produces programmes for BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 3, including Free Thinking, Front Row, and Woman’s Hour.

Martin Bright is former political editor of the JC and a former political editor of the New Statesman. He is founder of youth employment charity, The Creative Society, and writes a regular column, Sharp end for Society.
