Showcasing the virtuosity of each instrument through its six movements, Beethoven’s Septet possesses an easy-going charm and uncontainable exuberance.
It was a key inspiration for Schubert’s enchanting Octet, written for two violins, viola, cello, double bass, clarinet, bassoon and horn.
Formed in the late 1960s, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble is made up of principal musicians from the acclaimed chamber orchestra, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in the 2019/20 concert season.
