12 ensemble is rapidly developing a reputation as London’s foremost un-conducted string orchestra. This bold, versatile and virtuosic ensemble, built around a core of twelve of London’s finest and most exciting chamber musicians, will collaborate with fast-rising German virtuoso, Leonard Elschenbroich, in a programme that seamlessly blends the contemporary with baroque and neo-classical music.
The vivacious formalities of Vivaldi’s concerto are echoed in Stravinsky’s colourful Suite italienne, while Macmillan’s Kiss on Wood and Whitley’s Autumn Songs atomise the art of string playing. Lutosławski’s Musique funèbre provides a tragic stillpoint, while Bryce Dessner’s reflection on it, Réponse Lutosławski, receives its UK premiere.
‘Elschenbroich’s sound has a burnished glow and he radiates authority…’ The Independent
‘The performance was mesmerising… we couldn’t not listen.’ ★★★★½ Planet Hugill
