The wonderful artists of the prestigious Park Lane Group present a selection of lieder and song, including music by British composers Elgar, Lord Berners and Peter Dickinson, as well as Haydn’s Canzonettas or ‘English Songs’, composed during his visit to England, mostly to texts by Anne Hunter.

This is framed by two major works of the piano quartet repertoire – Mozart’s beautiful second Piano Quartet, and Fauré’s first, inextricably entwined in his stormy relationship with Marianne Vuardot in the late 1870s.

Please note, due to unforeseen circumstances, soprano Mimi Doulton and pianist Dominic Degavino can no longer take part in this event. Natalie Johnson-Hyde (soprano) and Lana Bode (piano) kindly step in. The repertoire has been amended and no longer reflects the information in our What’s On brochure. We apologise for any confusion this may cause.

FREE Pre-Concert Foyer Performance – Brompton Quartet, 5.45pm

Elgar String Quartet in E minor, Op. 83

Formed in September 2018, the Brompton Quartet is comprised of musicians from the UK, Austria and Slovenia, studying at the Royal College and Royal Academy of Music in London: Maja Horvat (violin), Emily Turkanik (violin), Hannah Gardiner (viola) and Wallis Power (cello). They have worked with artists including Daniel Rowland (Brodsky Quartet), Mats Zitterqvist (Chamber Orchestra of Europe) and Rafael Todes (Allegri Quartet).

Composed in 1918, Edward Elgar’s String Quartet, Op. 83, was one of his final major works, alongside the Violin Sonata, Cello Concerto and Piano Quintet. This reflects the strong presence of British composers in this evening’s concert.
