Ímar

‘Genuinely jaw-dropping collective virtuosity supplied frills to burn: they played their hearts out and their socks off, ultimately bringing the audience to its feet.’ ★★★★★ The Scotsman

Rarely has a new band hit the ground running like Ímar. Formed in 2016, these Glasgow-based instrumental firebrands have already scored a Radio 2 Folk Award, and topped the iTunes world music chart with 2018’s second album Avalanche, meanwhile inciting audience euphoria wherever they play. “A force of nature” (Songlines)

With a line-up featuring members of Mànran, RURA, Talisk and Barrule, a strong background in Irish music, and a heavyweight collective haul of top prizes – including a the 2018 BBC Radio 2 Musician Of The Year, 2016 BBC Radio Scotland Young Musician of the Year, BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award, BBC Young Folk Award, nine All-Ireland (World) and eight All-Britain titles – Ímar’s formation embodies a potent reconnection with it’s members formative years, dating back long before their camaraderie around Glasgow’s justly celebrated session scene.
