‘It’s as if Debussy were orchestrating Scottish folk – truly beautiful’ Songlines
A new project bringing together two of the UK’s foremost folk and jazz musicians alongside one of Scotland’s most celebrated authors.
Sparse and emotive contemporary folk music with spoken word performed by multiple BBC Folk Award-winning Scottish fiddler/composer Aidan O’Rourke (Lau), Mercury Music Prize nominated harmonium and piano player, Kit Downes (ECM Records) and James Robertson (And the Land Lay Still, Joseph Knight).
Inspired by James Robertson’s short story collection 365: Stories, in which James wrote a short story each day for a year (each with 365 words!), Aidan wrote a tune each day for a year in response to the stories. Here they present the words and music from the first double album 365: Volume 1 which was released in May.
