Investigative Journalism and Podcasts

More than Serial

Everyone loves a good detective story. But when it comes to digging into a topic and then telling that in podcast form, where do you start? In this session we’ll explore how to plan and structure a podcast investigation, where to begin, how long will it take and how you keep everyone involved safe? We’ll discuss different formats and ways to approach the storytelling, as well as delving into the ethical and legal challenges of telling complicated, contentious stories in podcast form.

Maeve McClenaghan is an award-winning investigative journalist who has made podcasts for Reveal (from the Center for Investigative Reporting) and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism. She hosts and produces her own podcast The Tip Off, which delves into the stories of how top journalists got their biggest scoops. The Tip Off won Best New Podcast at the British Podcast Awards 2018.
