Microphones 101

This 45 minute session, will be covering the most of important piece of equipment in a podcast set up… the microphone! In this Podcast Makers Session, we will show you the various microphone techniques to get the best quality podcast recording from yourselves and your guests. The way a microphone is used, the best place to position a microphone, and microphone levels are all subjects we will cover in this session.

The main question in regards to acquiring equipment to make a podcast is cost. We will advise on microphones on each end of the price scale, and how to get the best out of these microphones, regardless of price, including microphones built into your smartphone.

This session will be hosted by Unedited, the podcast makers and purveyors. With over 18 years experience in audio production for radio and podcast production, you will receive invaluable tips and advice.

The session will be taught by Bernard Achampong who has over 15 years experience working for the BBC as a Sony Radio Academy Award Winning producer for Radio 1 and 1Xtra, Radio 2 and Radio 4. Andrew Spence (also a Sony Radio Academy Award Winner) has produced & presented for Galaxy FM, Capital FM, Choice FM, Monocle 24 and talkRADIO. Cass Denton is the award-winning producer for podcasts such as the Black Magic Podcast and Island Girls Rock (both produced for The Unedited Stories Network) and is a producer at talkRADIO. Collectively they form Unedited and produce Nothing To Declare (British Podcast Award Nominee 2018), Dreamer’s Disease, The Retro Football Shirt Podcast, The Black Magic Podcast (Precious Lifestyle’s Podcast Of The Year 2018) and Island Girls Rock.

This session will be sponsored by Hammer Audio, makers of bespoke microphones who will also be on hand to give advice on how to get the best out of your microphone.
