Royal Philharmonic Society Women Conductors Workshops

As part of Venus Unwrapped, Kings Place joins forces with the Royal Philharmonic Society to present two one-day workshops giving women the chance to take up conducting.

The workshops are led by celebrated conductor Alice Farnham – recently featured in the 2018 Woman’s Hour Power List – and are aimed at female music professionals aged 18 and over, with little experience in conducting who would like to achieve greater proficiency, either as a principal focus or as part of a varied musical career. Participants will explore some basic philosophies and techniques of conducting then have the chance to work with a professional five-strong string ensemble across a whole day.

The RPS Women Conductors initiative is internationally acclaimed for its commitment to ensuring women are better represented on the podium and the current gender imbalance among professional conductors is one day consigned to the past.

‘I came away from the workshop with new techniques, ideas and more confidence, and rediscovered the enjoyment of learning something new.’ Kirsty Devaney, composer
