Junior doctors turned best-selling authors, Rachel Clarke and Adam Kay, offer poignant, honest – at times hilarious – accounts of their experiences as NHS medics.

Rachel Clarke tells of her passion for a health service imperilled by bureaucratic cock-ups, while award winning writer and performer Adam Kay hurtles from comedy to tragedy in his stunning exposé of the topsy-turvy world of the junior doctor.

Rachel Clarke is a NHS doctor who cares passionately about standing up for her patients and the Health Service. A former TV journalist, she made current affairs documentaries about subjects as diverse as the Monica Lewinsky scandal, Al Qaeda and the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She trained as a doctor in her late twenties and now works in palliative medicine, believing that helping patients to experience the best possible quality of life is of immeasurable importance.

Adam Kay is an award-winning comedian and writer for TV and film, including Mitchell & Webb and Very British ProblemsThis is Going to Hurt, revealing the inside story of his former career as a junior doctor, it became an instant Sunday Times bestseller and still retains it’s position on the bestseller list. It has been translated into 17 languages.

Daniel Glaser is an imaging neuroscientist. He is currently Head of Special Projects in Public Engagement at the Wellcome Trust, Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience and the first ‘Scientist in Residence’ at the ICA .
