Jazz at Kings Place

Jazz at Kings Place encompasses a varied programme of jazz styles, from traditional big band and swing to free improvisation. With 30 plus concerts each year, the programme features established and new talent, showcasing and supporting artists based in the UK and beyond. Over the years, Kings Place has fostered a relationship with BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Line-Up. Programme highlights have included Django Bates, Courtney Pine, Norma Winstone, Kenny Wheeler, Mike Westbrook, Jacqui Dankworth, Evan Parker, Julian Joseph, Lisa Simone, Matthew Halsall, Gwilym Simcock, Sidsel Endresen, Soweto Kinch, Shabaka Hutchings, Phronesis, Trish Clowes, Roller Trio, Nikki Isles and the Kairos Quartet.

For 2017, we are celebrating jazz turning 100 by highlighting British and Irish Jazz events with the hashtag ‘jazz100. Visit the #jazz100 website for more information.

Jiha Park – Communion

Jiha Park has matured into one of Korea’s great creative artists. First recognised in Britain for her work with SU:M, who were seen at Womad and in K-Music at the Southbank Centre, she plays a range of Korean traditional instruments like the piri (a double-reed bamboo flute).

Eduardo Niebla

Hailed by the Guardian for his ‘exquisite guitar playing’, Eduardo Niebla is a formidable flamenco jazz guitar virtuoso and master of today’s generation. Tonight he presents an amazing repertoire of ‘stunning flamenco jazz’ (The Sound) from his latest albums with guitarist Matthew Robinson.

The Traveller’s Tale: John Warren, John Surman & The Brass Project Live

The release of hitherto unsuspected recordings of the brass ensemble co-led by the gifted composer John Warren and master saxophonist John Surman drew terrific reviews for a suite distinguished by sumptuous ensemble voicings and deftly placed solo statements, all inspired by the extraordinary 19th century journeying of Warren’s grandfather. Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society
