‘Welcome to the 4th edition of London Piano Festival!
We are delighted to follow upon the successes of our three previous festivals with another uniquely exciting and widely contrasted series of piano performances all held in the vibrant, contemporary setting of Kings Place.
A sequence of solo recitals will run throughout the five-day festival including appearances by two of today’s most sought-after classical artists – Ingrid Fliter and Christian Ihle Hadland. The electrifying jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock offers an unmissable night of his own compositions whilst younger listeners can prepare to experience the piano up-close and revealed in a new light by Sarah Nicolls’ groundbreaking show ‘The Inside-Out Piano’.
Music and Words combine for two special events – a lecture-recital on Schubert by the acclaimed Scottish pianist Susan Tomes and the London premiere of Lucy Parham’s new show, a homage to the legendary 19th century pianist/composer Clara Wieck Schumann narrated by Dame Harriet Walter.
The central event is the ever-popular Two-Piano Marathon where six of the LPF pianists including the outstanding Tim Horton will team up in various combinations to present a wide range of repertoire from Mozart to Brahms via Debussy and Ravel. A world premiere by Jonathan Dove, our ‘LPF 2019 Composer in Residence’ will celebrate the distinctive voice of a much-loved British composer. We look forward to welcoming audiences to this festive occasion!’
