Schubert | String Quintet in C, D956 |

Antonio Meneses | cello |
Legendary Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses, formerly of the Beaux Arts Trio, joins the Brodsky Quartet for a celebration of the cello in chamber music. Schubert’s sublime String Quintet in C is often seen as a lone work of genius for a two-cello quintet, but Boccherini’s quintets, with their delicately shaded textures and dancing grace, were clearly inspirations. At the centre of the programme lies Borodin’s richly sonorous second string quartet whose Nocturne boasts the voluptuous cello melody, popularly known for its use in the musical Kismet.
