Hailed by Le Monde as belonging to ‘the French cello elite’, Christian-Pierre La Marca makes his Kings Place debut with a specially-curated Master Series recital, also part of Bach Weekend.

In his instrumental suites, Bach drew particular inspiration from French dances and musical forms. Here, Christian-Pierre La Marca prefaces the joyous G major and tragic C minor suites with gems by two of his French Baroque contemporaries, Marin Marais and Sainte-Colombe, both famous as composers and performers of the viola da gamba. He finishes with Giovanni Sollima’s dazzling Lamentatio, in which the cellist both sings and plays.

‘La Marca is a master of his instrument. A cellist of lyrical elegance and good taste’ Gramophone

Hailed by La Croix as ‘a young man who already ranks among the masters of the cello’, Christian-Pierre La Marca has quickly distinguished himself by his radiant presence in the world’s leading concert halls and his recordings, all of which have won awards.

He maintains a highly active presence on the French and international scenes, and is a regular guest in the world’s major musical centres, in Paris, Vienna St Petersburg, New York, Tokyo and more. He performs regularly in a duo with Lise de la Salle, and records exclusively for Naïve.

As a socially-committed artist, he initiated the ‘Concert for the Planet’ with the GoodPlanet Foundation and Yann Arthus-Bertrand, a solidarity event intended to raise funds for the environment.
