Colin Currie is a solo and chamber artist who champions new music at the highest level, hailed as being ‘at the summit of percussion performance today’ (Gramophone). Currie is the soloist of choice for many of today’s foremost composers and conductors, performing with leading orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Philharmonia Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra.
A dynamic and adventurous soloist, Currie’s commitment to commissioning and creating new music was recognised by the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2015, when he was presented the Instrumentalist Award. Currie has premiered works by composers such as Steve Reich, Louis Andriessen, HK Gruber, Sir James MacMillan, Jennifer Higdon, Anna Clyne, Brett Dean, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Helen Grime, Kalevi Aho, Julia Wolfe, Andy Akiho, Andrew Norman, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Elliott Carter, and most recently Bruno Mantovani, Gavin Higgins, Nicole Lizée and Danny Elfman.
Currie’s conducting career launched with the Colin Currie Group, which he led in performances of music by Steve Reich. He has gone on to conduct the London Symphony Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, Asko|Schoenberg Ensemble, Britten Sinfonia, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Lapland Chamber Orchestra and Grafenegg Academy Orchestra. This season, Currie conducts the Hallé in a Philip Glass Festival, Asko|Schoenberg Ensemble on a Dutch tour in a programme celebrating Steve Reich, São Paulo Symphony Music Academy, Brighton Philharmonic, and ensembles at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Reich/Richter / Asko|Schönberg
‘the music of Steve Reich performed by one of his greatest proponents, British percussionist Colin Currie, joined by Dutch contemporary music ensemble, Asko|Schönberg… The first half was all about the music and the intense effort exerted by the musicians to perform with such precision. Now, with musicians out of view, Reich’s largely consonant and highly accessible musical language in the masterful hands of Currie and Asko|Schöberg, was about the listener.’ Bachtrack

‘Colin Currie’s performance was both energetic and exciting.’ The Arts Desk
The King’s Singers have set the gold standard in a cappella singing on the world’s greatest stages for over 55 years. They are renowned for their unrivalled technique, musicianship and versatility, which stem from the group’s rich heritage and its drive to bring an extraordinary range of new and unique works, collaborations and recordings to life. The King’s Singers’ extensive discography has led to numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award, and a place in Gramophone magazine’s inaugural Hall of Fame.
The King’s Singers were officially formed in 1968 when six recent choral scholars from King’s College, Cambridge gave a concert at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. By chance, the group was made up of two countertenors, a tenor, two baritones and a bass, and the group has stuck to this formation ever since.

Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Brisbane
‘With a bass line evoking the threnody of the pipes, and beautiful complex harmonies enhancing a simple melody this was a song for the ages, and there was the “good silence” in the audience as all of us were enthralled…One imagined the acoustic of a cathedral as we heard their glorious harmonies, cut-glass counter-tenor lines soaring to the stratosphere, and counter-balancing deep bass. Just glorious.’ Weekend Notes
