A band of some of the most creative and gifted musicians of their generation take us on an evocative journey through folk, jazz, baroque, contemporary and more. Laura invites the cimbalom – a Hungarian hammered dulcimer – to join this musical grouping. The ensemble will find unity whether it is through rhythm and groove, folk influences, or rich harmonies. Béla Bartók’s duos for two violins are earthy, buzzing, and vibrant, contrasting the enticing melodies of Manuel de Falla and Maurice Ravel; György Kurtag cuts through the texture with his duos for Cimbalom and Violin, and Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre’s Violin Sonata dances through contrapuntal conversations, with many surprising harmonic moments to savour. The concert will also include personally-selected favourites, both composed and improvised, with many surprises along the way!
This concert will last approximately 70 mins without an interval.
