Born in Lanzhou, China, Bocheng began his career in 2016, making his debut with the London Mozart Players in a concert celebrating HM The Queen’s 90th birthday.
‘I have chosen to start with a delightful sonata in E flat by Mozart, which is not often performed. This is followed by Schubert’s powerful and emotional C minor Sonata D 958, one of his late sonatas which shows Beethoven’s immense influence. The key signatures of the Mozart and Schubert are related, and there is a big contrast between the two works.
The all-Chopin second half includes a selection of his most famous Op.33 Mazurkas – in G sharp minor, D major, C major and B minor. These are followed by the Op.62 Nocturnes in B major and E major, published in 1846 and dedicated to Mlle.R.de Konneritz. The programme ends with one of Chopin’s early works, the Variations on Là ci darem la mano (a duet between Don Giovanni and Zerlina in Act 1 of Mozart’s 1787 opera Don Giovanni), which Chopin composed when he was 17.’ — Bocheng Wang
