‘Shining Through refers to a shifting of worlds, in which one world can momentarily ‘shine through’ into another, maybe when it is most needed.’ This is how composer Ellen Lindquist writes describing her wondrous work, and this idea is mirrored throughout an electrifying evening with the Paddington Trio. The trio takes us through the storm of Brahms, into the exceptional life stories shared through Sam Perkin’s Freakshow, and finally, we hear the hope in humanity shine through the darkness of Shostakovich’s iconic trio. Paddington Trio’s programme features a compelling mix of masterworks from the Romantic era, the 20th century, and modern times.
As did the famous bear, Finnish violinist Tuulia Hero, Irish cellist Patrick Moriarty and American pianist Stephanie Tang made London their home a few years ago and have emerged as an entirely unique ensemble, celebrated for its close, energetic communication, insightful and imaginative programming, and highly refined playing.
The trio’s grand mission is to bridge the gap between new listeners and serious classical music enthusiasts by welcoming everyone into their living room of musical discovery and shared love of chamber music.
‘Their youth does not remotely detract from their excellence – these are accomplished musicians by any standard, not only in technique but in rapport and nuance.’ Strings Attached
