Pioneering ensemble Musica Secreta celebrate women’s spiritual relationships and the stories they tell, with music honouring the Blessed Virgin Mary and communities of sisters in 15th and 16th century Europe.

The ensemble, led by Professor Laurie Stras, bring motets attributed to Suor Leonora d’Este, Lucrezia Borgia’s daughter, and an Office of St Clare from the convent of Galileo’s daughter, Suor Maria Celeste Galilei, receiving its London premiere.

The programme is rounded out with works by Brumel, Maistre Jhan and anonymous (potentially female) composers and a newly-commissioned work by Joanna Marsh, setting the words of Norfolk poet Esther Morgan.
