The music: One of Bach’s most varied cantatas. Mixing joyful arias with funeral sounds, it’s a rollercoaster journey celebrating the glories of life and the sadness of death.

The science: Our guest is Professor Kishan Dholakia from the University of St Andrews’ Optical Manipulation Group. A world expert in the physics of light, he’s fascinated by how photonic imaging can unravel the mysteries of the brain.
