Dutch cellist Pieter Wispelwey has long been admired for his intensely imagined, questing performances and dizzying level of accomplishment on modern and period instruments. Here he and pianist Paolo Giacometti present two pillars of the repertoire, Johannes Brahms two great sonatas, alongside Schubert’s beautiful Arpeggione Sonata. There’ll also be a rare chance to hear Wispelwey’s astonishing cello perspective on the variations from Schubert’s Die Schöne Mullerin lied ‘Trockne Blumen’, originally for flute.
‘Wispelwey’s playing is at once supremely lyrical and furiously intense’ The Guardian
