Prunella Scales | speaker |
The play was devised by Katrina Hendrey and adapted by Julian Machin entirely using Queen Victoria’s own words, with music that she’d have known and loved. It shows what it’s like to be in a position so totally unlike anyone else’s, exposing Victoria’s true nature as having wide human sympathies and a fervent capacity to love. Covering her 60-year reign, the play reveals her private grief and dealings with wily politicians whilst displaying a great and surprising sense of humour.
The distinguished pianist, Michael Dussek, played the final performances of the US and UK tours. He also recorded the music in the shortened version of this revival for the Edinburgh Festival in 2024 and for the Tabard Studio Theatre, London.
In this production, Deborah Findlay shares the stage with the voice of Prunella Scales to bring the innermost thoughts of Queen Victoria back to life. directed by Denise Silvey.
This event will last approximately 90 minutes, with no interval.
