RNS Moves is a one-of-a-kind musical ensemble made up of professional disabled musicians and non-disabled members of Royal Northern Sinfonia. Together, they are pioneering a new style of inclusive music-making with improvisation and experimentation at its heart. And this set of music is a perfect snapshot of how they do it: by bending and blending styles, eras, and sound worlds until something entirely new takes shape.
RNS Moves start with the mesmeric minimalism of Philip Glass, paired with Caroline Shaw’s lush, nature-inspired textures. Then it’s a shift in mood and century. A burst of Renaissance calm with Tallis’s If Ye Love Me before a jump to 1970s New York for Julius Eastman’s Joy Boy. Brash, joyful, and a little wild – this one pulses with energy and edge. And Memento, by James MacMillan, takes it somewhere else again: intimate, reflective, a piece that almost whispers.
The finale blends the old and the radical in one seamless flow. Purcell’s Fantasia upon One Note – strange and beautiful – slides quietly into Riley’s In C, a piece that’s different every time it’s played. Built on repetition and chance, it grows and morphs like a living thing.
We recommend that disabled and neurodivergent customers register for our Access Scheme, which allows access customers to book access tickets and essential companion tickets online. You can read more about the scheme and sign up HERE.
Any seats in row A, as well as Q1 & Q20 (towards the back of the stalls), can be removed for wheelchair users who are not transferring to a theatre seat. To ensure we can accommodate customers who need to be seated close to the front or to book a wheelchair accessible space, Row A is currently only bookable for access customers.

During this performance, audience members are welcome to leave the hall at any time. Our front of house team will be happy to readmit you at the next suitable break in the performance.

About RNS Moves
Smashing stereotypes every time they play. RNS Moves is a one-of-a-kind musical ensemble made up of professional disabled musicians and non-disabled members of Royal Northern Sinfonia. Together they are pioneering a new style of inclusive music-making with improvisation and experimentation at its heart. One that breaks boundaries and flips expectations. One where everyone has an equal voice and the chance to shine. One that hopefully won’t be one-of-a-kind much longer.
RNS Moves meet at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead several times a year to collaborate and create. They invite inspiring and pioneering artists to join them, to bring new perspectives, to learn from each other. The 25/26 season will see RNS Moves’ debut performance in London at King’s Place, a collaboration with Candoco Dance Company and a new partnership at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
