In the second edition of the hugely popular Rush-hour Lates series, the Brodsky Quartet perform Schubert’s last three quartets and his quintet, lovingly set up with musical preludes.
For exiled cellist Pablo Casals’ the poignant El cant dels ocells (Song of the Birds) was a symbol of his lost homeland, Catalonia. It’s heard here in an arrangement for string quartet before the Brodsky’s are joined by leading young cellist Laura van der Heijden for Schubert’s sublime swansong, the String Quintet in C.
