| Brahms | Variations on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24 |
| Sherri Lun | piano |

Variations are often thought of as merely displays of technical brilliance, but these works show how much more there is to discover in the form. Sherri Lun‘s Metamorphosis programme was chosen for the way it reveals the creative process, as themes become laboratories of ideas – tested, stretched, fragmented, and illuminated with new colours as they evolve. The grandeur of Bach’s Chaconne re-imagined by Busoni stands alongside Mendelssohn’s inward intensity and Busoni’s virtuosic homage to Chopin.
Gubaidulina’s Chaconne pushes the boundaries of expression, before the journey ends with Brahms’s monumental Handel Variations. Together, these pieces show how simple musical seeds can grow, through true metamorphosis, into a whole world of imagination.
This event will last approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, including an interval.
