Peter Manning conductor
Julian Bliss clarinet
Bath Festival Orchestra
Vaughan Williams Two Hymn Tune Preludes (1936)
Ethel Smyth Serenade in D (1889)
Helen Grime Clarinet Concerto (2009)
Haydn Symphony No. 104 in D London

For its first concert since a sold-out launch concert in May, the newly revived Bath Festival Orchestra brings restoration to the capital with an unforgettable programme spanning over two centuries of music.

In this invigorating concert, the Bath Festival Orchestra contrasts the gentle, reflective beauty of Two Hymn Preludes with three lively works: Ethel Smyth’s effervescent Serenade in D, Grimes’ brilliant Clarinet Concerto and Haydn’s stately Symphony No.104  ‘London’.

The performance features clarinettist Julian Bliss, conductor Peter Manning and the energetic, ambitious young musicians of the Bath Festival Orchestra.

A note from the BFO Team:
The acclaimed musician and broadcaster Jess Gillam is hosting our very first ‘Behind the Notes’ podcast and she’s helping us understand a little bit more about the repertoire we’re going to be playing on the 18th October as well as talking to our Artistic Director and Conductor Peter Manning, our wonderful Leader and Associate Artistic Director Maren Bosma and our soloist for the evening, the incredible Julian Bliss.
