|Grace Williams||Sea Sketches|
|Ralph Vaughan Williams||The Lark Ascending|
|Michael Tippett||Sellinger’s Round|
Salt water stained nostalgia calls Grace Williams back to her coastal childhood home in a piece which traces the many moods of the ocean from its calm, flat surface of endless horizons to the unforgiving, relentlessness of stormy seas.
Delicate and uncertain, Vaughan Williams’ lark takes flight. Soaring high above fragrant green pastures, we dip and dive along with the solo violin of Thomas Gould in this landmark composition.
Michael Tippett weaves the traditional English tune, Sellinger’s Round, around musical samples surveying the rich history of British music from Orlando Gibbons, Henry Purcell, Thomas Arne, John Field, and Arthur Sullivan.
