Leading vocal ensemble VOCES8 join Grammy-winning composer and conductor, Eric Whitacre, at Kings Place for a special, intimate Voices Unwrapped performance of one of his most recent works, The Sacred Veil.

This page is for the 9pm concert. For tickets to the 6.30pm performance, please visit this page.

A collaboration between long-standing friends and writing partners, Eric Whitacre and poet/lyricist Charles Anthony (Tony) Silvestri, The Sacred Veil tells a story of life, love and loss. Eric, a charismatic presenter and one of the most widely performed composers of our day, will introduce the piece from the stage and perform it as never heard before – with chamber forces – conducting the Rolls Royce vocal octet, VOCES8. The concert begins with VOCES8 commissions from Jocelyn Hagen, and Kings Place’s Artist-in-Focus, Roderick Williams.

‘In The Sacred Veil, Whitacre memorably celebrates the precarious beauty of life, offering the welcome consolation of art and a momentary stay against our collective fate’ LA Times

The duration of this concert is approximately 1 hour, with no interval.

Founded in 2010, Constanza Chorus has grown into one of the most exciting amateur choruses in London. They have performed large-scale works such as the Requiems of Verdi and Brahms, as well as Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Bach’s Mass in B minor, alongside professional orchestras including the London Mozart Players and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and in world-leading venues such as Cadogan Hall. Other projects have included the recording of three albums, singing Mass at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and in Bach’s Thomaskirche in Leipzig, as well as performing a huge range of smaller-scale and a cappella works and a number of new commissions. Constanza Chorus supports a different charity each year and is proud to have raised thousands of pounds over the last ten years.
