World-famous, award-winning audio drama producer Dirk Maggs is interviewed by audio fiction expert Ella Watts in the final event of our Audio Drama Day. 

Dirk Maggs is one of the most famous producers of audio drama in the world. He has worked extensively with the BBC and Audible in particular. For the BBC, his work has included: a series of award-winning comic adaptations of Superman, Batman, Spider-Man and Judge Dredd; the hugely successful 2003-5 radio renaissance of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy; and a critically acclaimed series of adaptations of Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett’s work, namely Stardust, Anansi Boys, Good Omens, and Neverwhere. For Audible, Dirk has produced The X-Files starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, ALIEN: Out of the Shadows, and most recently The New York Times #1 Bestselling audio adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic series The Sandman.

Outside his award-winning, groundbreaking career in audio, Dirk has worked on a series of theatrical and animated productions, including Bob the Builder, The Animated Mr Bean and The Magic Roundabout Movie. In his spare time, Dirk plays drums for The Riotous Brothers on the UK Blues Circuit.

Ella Watts is a BBC Studios podcast producer best known for her 10 year overview of the English-language fiction podcast industry commissioned by BBC Sounds in 2018. Her audio drama work includes The Orphans, The Unseen Hour and Wooden Overcoats.
