Legendary Southern Italian roots band Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino celebrate their 50th Anniversary with an explosive Songlines Encounters Festival show of thunderous rhythms, spectacular dance and special guests, showing why they have their reputation as one of the most thrilling live bands in the world.

Led by the pulsating healing rhythms of the Taranta, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino bring Southern Italian heat to every stage, with spectacular dance, virtuosic playing and searing voices that evoke the rich mix of the Mediterranean. Leader Mauro Durante carries on the legacy of his visionary family who formed the band in 1975 with the aim of preserving Taranta heritage – their explosive live performances show the deep roots that have nurtured a vital and contemporary phenomenon and made them Italy’s premier roots band, who must not be missed!

For this special 50th anniversary celebration at Kings Place,  British guitarist and producer Justin Adams (Robert Plant, Tinariwen) will join CGS on stage, along with other surprise guests.

This event will last approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, without an interval.

Formed by writer Rina Durante in 1975, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino (CGS) is regarded as Italy’s leading and longest-standing traditional music ensemble, hailing from the Salento, the heel of the Italian boot, in Puglia.
