Acclaimed Polish cellist and composer Dobrawa Czocher brings her deeply contemplative yet sonically expansive album ‘State of Matter’ to Kings Place.
Hailed as ‘one of Europe’s most esteemed contemporary cellists’ (Loud & Quiet), Dobrawa Czocher is internationally recognised for her versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. Renowned for expanding the expressive range of the cello, she moves fluidly between classical tradition and contemporary experimentation, combining technical precision with a vivid sense of imagination. Inspired by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Zoltán Kodály, alongside contemporary figures including Max Richter and Steve Reich, her work breathes with rhythmic subtlety and quiet intensity: music that listens as much as it speaks.
This event will last approximately 75 minutes with no interval.

£10 ‘Under 30s’ tickets
A limited number of £10 tickets are available for certain shows to attendees aged under 30. To access Under 30s tickets, update your account with your Date of Birth. Please visit the account centre to add your Date of Birth.
If £10 tickets are available, the ticket discount will apply automatically at checkout. If the discount does not apply, this means all ‘Under 30s’ tickets have sold out for the performance.
Please note that proof of age may be requested at the venue.

Kings Place is situated just a few minutes’ walk from King’s Cross and St Pancras stations, one of the most connected locations in London and now the biggest transport hub in Europe.

The Venue
Our performance spaces are situated on the lower ground floor. Hall One, Hall Two and St Pancras are located in level -2, reached by stairs, escalator and lift from the ground floor entrance level.
Event Times
Door times indicate auditorium entrance times only. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Kings Place seating areas, gallery-level art, canal-side terrace, café, restaurant and bar throughout the day and evening.
- Our events begin promptly at the advertised start time. Typically, there is no support unless otherwise stated.
- We recommend arriving in good time before the performance. The Hall doors will open 30 minutes before the performance to allow time to take your seats, or to choose a space for standing shows.
- Latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance where possible

Rotunda Bar & Restaurant
Rotunda, situated on the ground floor of Kings Place, offers a unique dining and drinking experience alongside Regent’s Canal. The concert bar in the venue foyer will also be open for select events.
Green & Fortune Café
Recently re-furbished and now open with a new look, the Green & Fortune Café is open for selected concerts. Serving hot and cold food and drinks, including sandwiches, salads, soup, stew and a pie of the day, alongside a choice of cakes made by the on-site bakery team. About Dobrawa Czocher
Dobrawa Czocher (b. 1991) is a Polish cellist and composer known for expanding the expressive possibilities of the cello, moving seamlessly between classical tradition and contemporary experimentation. A graduate of the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, she was a member and leader-soloist of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Symphony Orchestra in Szczecin from 2018 to 2023.
As a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral performer, Czocher is recognised for combining technical precision with a vivid sense of imagination and expressive depth. For many years, she has collaborated with pianist Hania Rani. Their debut album, Biała flaga (2015), was followed by Inner Symphonies (2021), released on Deutsche Grammophon and marking the pair as the label’s youngest composer duo.
In 2023, Czocher released her debut solo album, Dreamscapes, on BMG / Modern Recordings. Featuring her own compositions for cello, the album received critical acclaim and was nominated in six categories at the Opus Klassik Awards, including Instrumentalist of the Year and Composer of the Year. She has since performed her music in major venues across Europe, including London, Berlin, Leipzig and Utrecht.
Alongside her concert work, Czocher composes for theatre and interdisciplinary projects. In 2024, she collaborated on the site-specific opera D’arc, directed by Krystian Lada and produced by the Warsaw Rising Museum, for which she composed Sonata for Solo Cello: Joanna’s Tale. Her music draws on influences ranging from Robert Schumann and Alfred Schnittke to Steve Reich, alongside elements of film and illustrative music.
In 2025, Czocher released Sonata for Solo Cello: Joanna’s Tale on the 130701 label.
