Phaedra Ensemble is joined by Laura Jurd in an immersive retrospective of the beloved British experimentalist, centred on his works for string quartet, in this London Premiere.

In an immersive concert re-imagining some of his most iconic works with new multimedia creations, spatialised sound, and the UK premiere of his fourth string quartet, Phaedra perform an array of seminal works spanning four decades, including The Sinking of the Titanic and A Man in a Room, Gambling. The concert also features a new commission from acclaimed Jazz trumpeter and composer Laura Jurd, reflecting on the music of Bryars, who will perform with the ensemble.

Yorkshire-born Bryars occupies a singular place in British contemporary music, responsible for the ‘closest thing we have in this country for an alternative national anthem’ in his seminal work Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet (1969). He has collaborated with the likes of Tom Waits, Brian Eno, and Aphex Twin and continues to be as prolific and influential as ever as he reaches his 80th year.

The performance will last approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, including an interval.
