Joseph Tawadros’ music draws upon thousands of years of ancient traditions which he presents in a fresh, vibrant and engaging way with influences of jazz, flamenco, prog rock and even bluegrass.
From furiously fast numbers to more slow and meditative reflections, Tawdros weaves in humorous onstage banter and storytelling, while his performances break down barriers of what people think of the instrument and the ‘world music’ idiom – in his iconic fashion.
His solo performances are a vibrant take on the oud, showcasing its flexibility through his ability to challenge traditional forms and break down barriers in meter and melody. Come and see Tawadros in his element and hear the oud as you’ve never heard it before in what promises to be a special evening of music, storytelling and laughter.

‘Tawadros comic interludes are genuinely entertaining and often revealing. His humour and self-deprecation are disarming, if occasionally in danger of asking us to take him less seriously, which would do him a great injustice. Yet he manages to gently challenge expectations of image, accent and culture, through his jokes.’ — Bachtrack
‘Joseph Tawadros has a gift for infusing sadness with beauty and vice versa. He writes fragile melodies in which notes hang in the air long enough to ache as well as beguile.’— Sydney Morning Herald
