Kimura & Ono with Kit Downes

Betwixt Mortality & Immortality

Surpassing Entities, Separate Entities

Shunsuke Kimura shinobue, tsugaru-shamisen
Etsuro Ono tsugaru-shamisen, percussion
Kit Downes piano

Embark on a Japan-UK musical odyssey as Kit Downes on piano harmonises with Shunsuke Kimura on the shinobue (traverse bamboo flute) and Etsuro Ono on Tsugaru shamisen (three string banjo).

Kimura‘s delicate, nuanced sounds on the shinobue resonates with the rich landscapes of Japanese nature and rituals, while Etsuro Ono evokes earthy beats of Tsugaru shamisen from Tohoku in North East Japan.

These three musical masters delve into the narratives of folktales and traditional rituals of Japan and the UK. Their music evolves as a dialogue and improvisation traversing evocative themes – time, love, sex, life and death. Their themes weave a crafted sound landscape and their performance navigates the realms of the mortal and immortal.

Welcome to a mesmerizing evening, embracing a symphony of Surpassing Entities, Separate Entities—a celebration of cultural richness and musical mastery.

This event will last approximately 2 hours, including an interval.
