Join us for Riot Ensemble’s cellist Louise McMonagle’s album launch Ancient Modernity, featuring Scottish composers from Anna Meredith to John Maxwell Geddes, plus works for cello and electronics spatialised in soundscape.


Acclaimed Scottish cellist Louise McMonagle launches Ancient Modernity (Delphian Records) a solo album meticulously crafted over years of collaboration with today’s most dynamic composers. Here is a musical journey that starts and ends with the rich landscapes of Scotland, uniting visionary composers who draw inspiration from Gaelic psalms, Arabic oud techniques, baroque bass-lines and traditional folk melody. Music by Ailie Robertson, Corrina Hewat, John Maxwell Geddes, and Lisa Robertson will feature alongside works for cello and electronics by Anna Meredith Caroline Shaw, Liza Lim and Zoë Martlew  showcasing the d&b 360 Soundscape system.

This event will last approximately 2 hours, including an interval.

Booking Fees

A booking fee of 10% will be applied in your basket, with a maximum charge of £5.00 per transaction. Kings Place Friends are exempt from all booking fees.

Booking fees (per order, not per ticket) covers our Box Office administrative costs so that Kings Place Music Foundation, the charity set up to run the music spaces at Kings Place, can continue to support our programme, artists and learning and participation work.

d&b Soundscape performance
For this event, d&b audiotechnik's Soundscape system will be utilised throughout the performance.A  revolution in the live sound experience, d&b Soundscape is an alternative to the traditional left and right stereo system, using up to 28 loudspeakers to open up a plethora of creative possibilities for artists to reinforce their sound. The following Sound Unwrapped shows will all be using the d&b Soundscape system.
