Martin Creed's Words And Music

An evening of songs and talk with Martin Creed. Those familiar with the Turner Prize-winning artist will know that one of the many engaging aspects of his live performances, regardless of the venue and context, is the unpredictability of the proceedings.

Martin Creed won the Turner Prize in 2001 with his controversial Work No. 227: The lights going on and off. He was commissioned to mark the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games with Work No. 1197 and has choreographed a piece of work produced by Sadler’s Wells entitled Work No. 1020: Ballet. Music plays a pivotal role in Martin’s career as an artist – he has composed works for Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra as well as being commissioned by Kings Place artistic associate London Sinfonietta. In March 2016, he released a new single entitled What The F**k Am I Doing? on Telephone Records.

‘A burst of pure delight… a deceptively serious collection of hooks that snag the imagination long after it’s gone.’ David Quantick, Q Magazine

‘The tunes are catchy, punk-folk-minimalist amalgams that parody pop music by increasing the simplicity and repetitiveness of much of it, and use and abuse language brilliantly.’ Roberta Smith, The New York Times
