An evening of two parts, singer-songwriter, cellist and composer Ayanna Witter-Johnson displays her multi-genre approach to music.

Showcasing works commissioned by Solem Quartet, the Philharmonia, London Symphony Orchestra and performed by members of BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chineke! Orchestra in the first half, whilst highlighting how her classical tone weaves its way through her musical roots of reggae, soul and jazz, infusions in the second half also accompanied by her band, with songs taken from her recently released sophomore album. Get ready to be inspired, uplifted, and transported to the eclectic musical world of Ayanna Witter-Johnson.

This event, produced by Black Lives in Music, takes place as part of Classically Black, a day of celebration in recognition of the contribution by Black and global majority musicians and composers in classical music.

This event is sponsored by ABRSM

This event will last approximately 2 hours, including an interval.

‘The cherry on top? British Singer-songwriter Ayanna Witter-Johnson’s soulful musical performance.’ Vogue

‘Cellist and singer Ayanna Witter-Johnson has to be heard to be believed. Her self-assured style blends a honey-sweet vocal delivery with bewitching cello-playing.’ Time Out

‘The album comes full circle with Forever – Witter-Johnson’s first collaboration with the percussion ensemble and a companion piece to Unconditionally – which builds to a thrilling climactic point of textural intensification, before stripping back to just cello, voice and percussion at its dramatic close. An unmissable collection of storytelling magic’ Jazzwise
